Legendary Inspiration

My grandparents were big B.B. King fans. In fact, there is an 8-track tape recording of one of B.B. King's albums in my Grandpop's basement. It features the song, "Ain't Gonna Worry My Life Anymore." I find that an ironic title from a Blues Legend. But in addition to being unquestionably one of the world's greatest musicians, B.B. King performed well into his 80's! His dedication to his artistry inspires me on so many levels, and it proves what can happen when you love your art as much as he did.

It takes a lot of courage just to be an artist or creative person, more than most people realize. I wonder how many of you give yourself credit for daring to just communicate something in the way you want. On YouTube.com, I saw videos related to "Be A Lion", the fantastic song from the Broadway musical hit, "The Wiz", and this ran through my mind afterward. As a creative person, you run the risk of getting back insensitive comments from people who wouldn't know talent if it kicked them ... but you also receive acknowledgments, even gratitude, from people whose lives you affected in some positive way: a smile in their day, an inspiration, a desperately needed hope ... I think it's worth the risk!

Michael Jackson is one of the greatest artists this world has ever seen. I say "is" not "was" because while bodies expire, spirits never die. And Michael's music and extraordinary artistry will also live on. Yes, he may have had self-esteem issues - who doesn't? And perhaps it's true that he did need to increase his financial IQ - who doesn't? But can anyone deny his artistic brilliance? Can anyone deny that he was gifted beyond belief? How blessed we were to have him for half a century!
